Child Therapy in Newmarket for Anxiety, Behaviour and Big Emotions

"*" indicates required fields

How it works

When a child is struggling, the whole family feels it. Worries, frustration or grief can appear as clinginess, aggression, stomach aches or trouble at school. Our Newmarket child therapists use play therapy and child-friendly activities to help kids understand their feelings and learn healthy ways to cope, while coaching parents with strategies that work at home.

We support families from Newmarket, Aurora, East Gwillimbury, Bradford West Gwillimbury, Georgina and King. No waitlist.

Your roadmap

1

Intake Phase

Getting started

The therapist makes sure parents are fully informed about child counselling, what to expect and their involvement in the process, with an opportunity to ask questions and share their insights and concerns.

2

Discovery Phase

Understanding your child

The therapist gets to know your child, understands what they are experiencing and hears the concerns and goals that brought your family to counselling. From that understanding, they develop a Care Plan with clear goals.

3

Working Phase

Working toward your child’s goals

The therapist and your child work directly on the goals in the Care Plan, adapting how they work to your child’s age, development and way of communicating, and adjusting when something is not helping.

4

Check-In Phase

Building on progress

As your child becomes more able to use what they have been working on outside counselling, appointments become less frequent. The therapist keeps checking how things are going and whether anything needs attention.

5

Follow-Up Phase

Staying connected

When regular counselling is no longer needed, active counselling ends. Your child remains connected to Family TLC and can return if counselling is needed again in the future.

Is this you?

Does your child worry a lot or struggle to separate from you?

Are anger, aggression or defiance causing problems at home or school?

Is your child having a hard time after a loss, move or family change?

FAQ

If your child’s emotions or behaviour are affecting daily life at home, school or with friends for several weeks, therapy may help. You don’t need to be certain. A free matching consultation gives you a chance to share your concerns and get guidance on next steps.

Your therapist usually starts by meeting with parents to learn about your child’s history and your concerns. Then they spend time getting to know your child through play and relaxed activities, building trust before gently working on feelings and skills.

Yes. Your therapist will keep you informed about general progress and share practical strategies for home. Parent involvement is a key part of child counselling at Family TLC because children make the most progress when parents feel supported too.

Yes, the matching consultation for parents is free, with no pressure to book. Therapy sessions are paid services. Our Matching Specialist will explain session fees and availability and help you choose a therapist who fits your child’s needs.

Our child therapists are regulated psychotherapists and social workers trained in the Family TLC Method. Family TLC has supported families for more than 25 years and welcomes children and parents of all cultures, faiths, gender identities and sexual orientations.
