Your roadmap

1

Intake Phase

A clear and professional beginning

Your therapist will make sure you are both fully informed about couples counselling, understand what to expect from Family TLC and the Family TLC Method, and have the information you need before moving forward.

2

Discovery Phase

Understanding each of you and your relationship

Your therapist takes time to understand each of you individually as well as how you each experience the relationship. Through individual and joint appointments, your therapist builds the Care Plan.

3

Working Phase

Turning understanding into change

Your therapist helps you put your Care Plan into action and work directly on the goals identified within it. This may involve understanding what sits underneath recurring reactions and recognizing patterns.

4

Check-In Phase

Building on the progress you have made

Once you have reached the goals in your Care Plan, appointments become less frequent. These check-ins give you and your partner space to look at how the changes are holding up in everyday life.

5

Follow-Up Phase

Staying connected

When you and your therapist agree that regular appointments are no longer needed, active couples counselling ends, and you move into the Follow-Up Phase.

Is this you?

Do you keep having the same arguments without resolving anything?

Do you feel more like roommates than partners?

Has trust been damaged by an affair, secrets or broken promises?

FAQ

Your therapist meets with both of you to understand your relationship, your concerns and what you each hope will change. Sessions focus on communication, conflict patterns and rebuilding connection. Some therapists may also suggest occasional individual sessions to support the work you do together.

It’s common for one partner to feel hesitant. A free matching consultation lets you both ask questions with no pressure to book. Many couples find that the neutral, respectful setting helps the more reluctant partner feel comfortable once sessions begin.

Yes. Our therapists support couples working through infidelity, betrayal and damaged trust. Therapy offers a structured space to process painful emotions, understand what happened and decide together whether and how to rebuild the relationship.

Yes, the matching consultation with our Matching Specialist is free. Therapy sessions are paid services. During your call, our team will explain session fees and availability and help you choose a couples therapist who is a good fit for your relationship.

Absolutely. Family TLC welcomes married, common-law, dating, engaged and separating couples, and is inclusive of all cultures, faiths, gender identities and sexual orientations. Our therapists also offer premarital counselling for couples preparing for the future.
