Teen Therapy in Barrie From Therapists Who Understand Teens

"*" indicates required fields

How it works

The teenage years bring pressure from school, friendships, social media and growing independence. When your teen withdraws, struggles with anxiety or seems stuck in a low mood, it can be hard to know how to help. Our Barrie teen therapists offer a safe, confidential space where teens can open up, build coping skills and grow their confidence, while parents receive guidance too.

We support families from Barrie, Innisfil, Springwater, Oro-Medonte and Essa, in person or online, with no waitlist.

Your roadmap

1

Intake Phase

Getting Started

The therapist helps your teen understand what to expect from counselling and the Family TLC Method. They also begin establishing how counselling will work so your teen knows what to expect.

2

Discovery Phase

Understanding What Is Really Going On

The therapist takes time to get to know your teen beyond the concern that brought them to counselling. They explore what life feels like from your teen’s perspective and create a Care Plan.

3

Working Phase

Doing Work That Has Meaning for the Teen

The therapist and teen work directly toward the goals in the Care Plan. What that looks like depends on the teen. The therapist may help them notice patterns and understand emotional reactions.

4

Check-In Phase

Building on Progress

As your teen gets better at using what they have been working on outside counselling, appointments become less frequent. The therapist and teen continue to look at what has changed.

5

Follow-Up Phase

Staying Connected

When regular counselling is no longer needed, active counselling ends. Your teen remains connected to Family TLC and can return if circumstances change or counselling becomes helpful again.

FAQ

Our teen counselling supports young people ages 13 to 18. Therapists adapt their approach to each teen’s age, personality and concerns, whether that’s school stress, anxiety, low mood, self-esteem, anger or difficulties at home.

Teens need a safe space to open up, so sessions are kept confidential. Your therapist will explain how privacy works at the start, including when safety concerns must be shared. Parents are kept involved through general updates and guidance on how to support their teen at home.

This is very common. Our therapists are experienced in building trust with hesitant teens and keep sessions relaxed and respectful. Our Matching Specialist can also match your teen with a therapist whose personality is likely to feel comfortable and relatable.

Yes, the matching consultation for parents is free, with no pressure to book. Therapy sessions are paid services. Our Matching Specialist will explain session fees and availability and help you choose the right teen therapist.

Yes. Depending on your teen’s needs, therapists may include parents in some sessions or offer separate parent support. Family TLC has worked with families for more than 25 years and understands that lasting change often involves the whole family.
