How it works

When stress, anxiety, trauma or loss start affecting your sleep, work and relationships, it’s hard to see a way forward. At our Newmarket office on Yonge Street, you meet one-on-one with a regulated psychotherapist or social worker who listens without judgment. Together, you uncover what’s holding you back and build tools that help you feel steady again.

We welcome clients from Newmarket, Aurora, East Gwillimbury, Bradford West Gwillimbury, Georgina and King. No waitlist.

Your roadmap

1

Intake Phase

Knowing what to expect

Your therapist makes sure you are fully informed about counselling, understand what to expect from Family TLC and the Family TLC Method, and have the information you need before moving forward.

2

Discovery Phase

Creating your Care Plan

You and your therapist begin exploring what has brought you to counselling. Your therapist takes time to understand your experiences, asks questions, and notices patterns and connections.

3

Working Phase

Working directly on the goals

This is where you and your therapist put your Care Plan into action and focus on the concerns and goals identified within it using therapeutic modalities, strategies and interventions based on your needs.

4

Check-In Phase

Maintaining your progress

Once you and your therapist agree that the goals in your Care Plan have been achieved, appointments become less frequent. You have more opportunity to use what you have learned independently.

5

Follow-Up Phase

Staying connected

When you and your therapist agree that regular appointments are no longer needed, active counselling comes to an end. You remain connected with Family TLC and can reconnect with counselling in the future.

FAQ

You start with a free call with our Matching Specialist. They listen to what’s happening in your life, answer your questions and recommend a Family TLC therapist whose experience and personality suit your needs. There’s no pressure to book a session.

No. Family TLC has no waitlist. After you’re matched, you can book your first appointment at our Newmarket office on Yonge Street or choose secure online sessions if that fits your schedule better.

Our therapists support adults with anxiety, depression, stress and burnout, trauma, grief and loss, anger and emotion regulation, low self-esteem and major life transitions. Whatever you’re facing, our Matching Specialist can help you find a therapist with the right experience.

The matching consultation with our Matching Specialist is free. Therapy sessions are paid services. During your call, our team will explain session fees and availability so you know exactly what to expect before booking.

Every Family TLC therapist is trained in the Family TLC Method, a clear five-phase approach developed by founder Sue Cook. With more than 25 years of experience and over 10,000 people helped in the past five years, we combine structure with compassionate, personalized care.
