Nicole Reason

Registered Social Worker (MSW)

Nicole works with children ages 8+, teens and adults. She supports people experiencing anxiety, grief, depression, addiction and other mental health concerns, as well as self-esteem difficulties, relationship concerns, childhood trauma, trust, communication and boundaries.

Nicole is especially attentive to helping people understand what counselling will involve and how they will know whether it is helping. She takes time to explain the process, answer questions and reduce the pressure to arrive with everything figured out. Her style is honest, compassionate and encouraging, with a strong focus on helping clients recognize both what is difficult and what they are already doing well.

With children and teens, Nicole pays particular attention to confidence, emotional wellbeing and the pressures they may be carrying. She uses age-appropriate strategies, including play-based approaches when helpful, so younger clients can understand and express thoughts, feelings and reactions in ways that make sense for their age and development.

With teens and adults, Nicole often focuses on the connections between thoughts, emotions and behaviour. She also helps clients recognize strengths that can be harder to see during periods of anxiety, grief, relationship difficulty or other life challenges.

A distinctive part of Nicole’s work is her attention to progress. She does not want clients to simply wonder whether counselling is making a difference. Depending on the person and what they are working toward, she may use reflection, journaling or symptom measures to make change more visible, review what is helping and guide what needs attention next.

Her work draws from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, strengths-based, solution-focused and play-based approaches within a holistic view of wellbeing. She adapts counselling to the individual rather than assuming that one approach will fit every person.

Nicole holds a Master of Social Work from the University of Windsor, specializing in health and mental health, an Honours Bachelor of Social Work from Lakehead University with a minor in Criminology, and a Social Service Worker diploma from Georgian College. She is a Registered Social Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) and a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers.
