Stephanie Carpino
Stephanie works with children ages 7+, teens and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, grief and major life transitions. She also works with Indigenous clients and offers walking therapy and EMDR when these approaches are appropriate to the person and their goals.
One thing that makes Stephanie’s work distinctive is that counselling does not always have to happen sitting across from one another in a room. For some people, conversation comes more naturally while walking. Stephanie offers both traditional counselling and walking therapy, giving clients another way to engage in the counselling process.
As a Registered Indigenous Social Worker, Stephanie brings a holistic perspective to counselling. She considers the broader experiences, identities, relationships, strengths and pressures that may be affecting a person’s wellbeing. Her work can draw from Indigenous healing approaches, strengths-based and narrative practices, EMDR and other trauma-informed approaches rather than treating the immediate symptom as the whole story.
Stephanie also brings significant experience with children and teens. Before completing her social work training, she earned a Child and Youth Worker diploma and spent eight years working with children in the Simcoe County District School Board. She understands that young people may need time, choice and different ways of expressing what is happening for them.
With children and teens, Stephanie helps them understand emotions and difficult experiences while identifying strengths they can build on. Her marketing profile also identifies major life transitions, including parental separation or divorce, as an important area of her work with children.
With adults, Stephanie looks at both what is happening now and the patterns or experiences that may be contributing to it. She helps clients identify what they want to be different, recognize strengths and recurring cycles, and develop strategies that support meaningful, sustainable change.
Stephanie is also very deliberate about keeping the counselling connected to the person’s goals. She invites questions from the beginning, checks in regularly about how the work is going, and adjusts the approach when needed rather than assuming that the same process will fit everyone.
Stephanie holds a Master of Social Work and Bachelor of Indigenous Social Work from Laurentian University and is a Registered Social Worker.
