Christina Furtado
Christina works with teens ages 14+, adults, couples and individuals experiencing relationship concerns. She supports people dealing with anxiety, trauma, ADHD, parenting challenges, intimacy concerns, relationship difficulties and major life transitions.
Christina is a good fit for people who know something needs to change but keep finding themselves in the same reactions, relationship patterns or emotional responses. Her style combines warmth, genuineness and humour with a willingness to be direct when that can help move the work forward.
With teens and adults, Christina looks at how past and present experiences may be influencing the way someone thinks, feels and responds today. She helps clients recognize patterns affecting confidence, wellbeing, relationships or their ability to cope, and work toward healthier ways of responding.
Relationships are also an important part of Christina’s work. With couples and individuals experiencing relationship difficulties, she slows down recurring interactions to help clients better understand what is happening underneath them. The work can include communication, emotional connection, trust and intimacy.
Christina also has previous experience as an educator working with neurodivergent individuals. This contributes to her understanding that people can learn, communicate and experience the world differently, and that counselling needs to be adapted accordingly.
Her work is integrative and personalized rather than based on the assumption that one therapeutic approach will fit every person or couple. The counselling is shaped by what she learns about the client, their relationships, their goals and the patterns that emerge through the work.
Christina is a Registered Psychotherapist and holds a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University and a Bachelor of Arts from Laurentian University.
