Aria Martinez
Therapist Counsellor
Aria Martinez is a bilingual therapist at Family TLC providing child counselling (ages 5+), teen counselling (ages 13+), individual therapy, couples counselling, and family therapy in Barrie, Ontario. She supports children, adolescents, adults, and families experiencing emotional challenges, ADHD-related concerns, autism-related challenges, family conflict, substance use issues, and major life transitions.
Aria’s counselling is highly individualized. She takes time to understand how each person communicates, processes experiences, relates to others and makes sense of what is happening in their life. This is particularly important in her work with neurodivergent clients and teens, where she focuses on building trust and understanding how the person engages before introducing therapeutic strategies.
Sometimes the challenge is not only what is happening but feeling misunderstood by the people around you. A child may be struggling to manage big emotions, a teen may be withdrawing or losing motivation, or an adult may be trying to understand patterns that keep affecting their confidence, relationships or daily life.
With children and teens, Aria adapts counselling to their age, communication style and individual needs. She works with young people who may be struggling with big emotions, confidence, motivation, school, relationships or feeling misunderstood. She also works with parents to better understand what may be happening for their child or teen and strengthen communication and relationships within the family.
With adults, couples and families, Aria helps clients understand patterns that may be affecting their confidence, relationships or daily life. She supports clients in exploring what may be underneath recurring difficulties, improving communication, understanding themselves and one another more clearly, and developing healthier ways of responding.
Aria draws from family systems, behavioural, psychodynamic and neuroscience-informed approaches. Her advanced training includes Multidimensional Family Therapy, addiction treatment and psychodynamic psychotherapy. Rather than relying on one approach for every person or concern, she adapts the therapeutic work to the individual, their goals and what emerges through counselling.
Aria holds a Master of Psychology and a Master of Education from the Technological University of Mexico, as well as a Diploma in Behavioural Sciences from Seneca College. She provides counselling in English and Spanish in Barrie, Orillia, and virtually.
